Niagara Tablet Graphics Stop Rendering After Upgrade

Problem

After upgrading Niagara from 4.11 to 4.15 or later, custom PX graphics (kitPx, SVG icons, animations) no longer display on touchscreen/tablet devices. PC browser graphics work fine.

Root Cause

Older tablet browsers (especially Android) don't support newer HTML5/JavaScript features introduced in Niagara 4.15+. PX engine relies on browser capabilities.

Solution

1. Check Tablet Firmware and Browser Version

• Open tablet browser and navigate to an info page
• If browser is >3 years old, it's likely EOL and won't support modern PX

2. Update the Tablet OS and Browser

• Android tablets: Check Google Play Store for system updates
• iOS: Update to latest OS (Safari updates automatically)
• For enterprise devices, contact IT for approved update path

3. If Tablet Cannot Be Updated

• Request budget approval for modern tablet ($300–500 for durable commercial device)
• Fall back to legacy mode graphics or PNG icons instead of SVG
• Document the device as EOL and plan replacement

4. For Custom SVG Graphics That Break

• Test SVG rendering in browser developer console (F12 in Chrome)
• Simplify complex SVGs or convert to PNG equivalents
• Use Niagara's fallback icon library instead of custom SVG
