Bulk Modify in Metasys MUI

Bulk Modify allows you to change multiple points, schedules, or equipment settings simultaneously in the Metasys User Interface, saving significant time compared to individual edits.

When to Use Bulk Modify

Accessing Bulk Modify

From Equipment List

1. Navigate to Equipment view
2. Select multiple items using checkboxes
3. Click Bulk Modify button in toolbar
4. Choose attribute to modify

From Space View

1. Navigate to a Space (building, floor, etc.)
2. Select equipment within that space
3. Use Bulk Modify for selected items

From Search Results

1. Use advanced search to find target points
2. Select items from results
3. Apply Bulk Modify to selection

Bulk Modify Operations

Setpoint Changes

1. Select equipment with setpoint attributes
2. Choose Bulk Modify > Setpoint
3. Enter new value or offset
4. Options:
   • Absolute: Set all to specific value (e.g., 72°F)
   • Relative: Adjust by offset (e.g., +2°F)
5. Review preview of changes
6. Apply changes

Schedule Modifications

1. Select scheduled equipment
2. Choose Bulk Modify > Schedule
3. Available actions:
   • Copy schedule from one item to others
   • Apply template schedule
   • Clear all schedules
   • Modify specific time periods

Command Operations

1. Select controllable equipment
2. Choose Bulk Modify > Command
3. Available commands:
   • Start/Stop
   • Enable/Disable
   • Reset
   • Release override

Attribute Updates

1. Select points or equipment
2. Choose Bulk Modify > Attributes
3. Modifiable attributes:
   • Description/Name
   • Engineering Units
   • Alarm Limits
   • COV Increment
   • Present Value (where writable)

Before Bulk Modify

Filter Carefully

Use filters to ensure you're selecting only intended items:

• Filter by equipment type
• Filter by space/location
• Filter by current value range

Preview Changes

Always review the preview before applying:

• Verify item count matches expectation
• Check that correct attribute is selected
• Confirm new values are appropriate
• Look for outliers that shouldn't change

Common Scenarios

Scenario 1: Reduce Heating Setpoints Building-Wide

1. Navigate to building in Spaces
2. Filter Equipment by "VAV" or heating equipment
3. Select all VAV boxes
4. Bulk Modify > Heating Setpoint
5. Apply relative change: -2°F
6. Review and apply

Scenario 2: Apply Holiday Schedule

1. Search for equipment with schedules
2. Select all AHUs and VAVs
3. Bulk Modify > Schedule
4. Select "Holiday" schedule template
5. Apply to December 25th
6. Verify schedule entries

Scenario 3: Reset All Zone Overrides

1. Navigate to affected area
2. Filter for equipment with active overrides
3. Select overridden items
4. Bulk Modify > Command > Release Override
5. Confirm equipment returns to automatic

Limitations

• Cannot bulk modify items across different equipment types with incompatible attributes
• Some attributes may be read-only depending on controller configuration
• Large selections may timeout - work in batches if needed
• Audit trail records bulk operations as single action

Troubleshooting

Changes Not Applying

1. Check user permissions
2. Verify equipment is online
3. Confirm attribute is writable
4. Check for active interlocks or overrides

Partial Success

1. Review operation log for failures
2. Check individual failed items
3. May need to address network or controller issues
4. Retry failed items separately

Audit Trail

Bulk Modify operations are logged:

• Username and timestamp
• Affected items list
• Old and new values
• Success/failure status
